Vintage Harvest Conducts Auction of items from the Enoch Reindahl Estate of Stoughton, WI. (6/23/01)

by Deborah Straub

It's late at night after a day of conducting an auction. I suppose I should be in bed or at least relaxing but instead I had to write and share with all of you the results of an interesting auction I conducted today.

The auction featured items from the Enoch Reindahl Estate of Stoughton.

When I was approached a few months back to conduct the auction I recognized the name of Enoch Reindahl as a recognized artist, decoy carver and wildlife naturalist.

Though I was disappointed to hear all the decoys were long gone to private collectors, I was still given the sale of the furnishings and items of choice from his house.

The first time we were in Enochs house (which seemed to be untouched of the early 1900's) gathering items for auction ,we labeled the furniture to be moved. As working on this task I happened to notice an old wood paint box and brushes lying on the floor. I thought that if anyone who collected his decoys may want to own the paint box. Now for some, they may have been looking for hidden jewelry or gold but to me this paint box held a value of its own. I could envision this elderly man carving and painting his birds with great thought and love of the art.

This maybe the last chance to salvage items of interest to those who appreciated his artistic ability, love of duck hunting and nature. A souvenir of someone who shared the same enthusiasm for wildfowl, outdoors as he.

So the search began and I put together duck stamps, hunting license and photographs that Enoch had taken of the mallards in flight. Sketches he made to create some of his famous paintings. I searched in a musty basement and dark dusty attic I wondered at times if this was going to be worth it to someone?

Today it pleasantly surprised me on how much they did like it.

When time came to auction Enoch Reindahls items, people were on the edge of their seats with excitement. The following are some of the results of items sold from Enoch Reindahl's estate.
